Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Job 34 records Elihu’s defense of God’s justice. He rebukes Job for saying it profits a man nothing to delight in God, asserting that God will never pervert judgment and that He repays every man according to his work.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. God Cannot Do Wickedly: "Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness" (v. 10). We must base our faith on the absolute moral perfection of God, even when life feels unfair.2. The Impartiality of God: God does not favor princes over the poor (v. 19). In a world of bias, we can trust that the Judge of all the earth acts with total equity.
3. Accepting Correction: Elihu suggests that instead of complaining, we should say, "That which I see not teach thou me" (v. 32). A teachable spirit is the key to spiritual growth.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Sovereign Lord, we acknowledge that Thy ways are just and true. Grant us a teachable heart to say, "Teach Thou me," instead of complaining when we do not understand Thy providence. Amen.
