Chapter Study & Analysis

Job 42 is the restoration. Job repents in dust and ashes. God rebukes the three friends for not speaking rightly and commands them to offer sacrifices while Job prays for them. God then blesses Job with twice as much as he had before.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Seeing God: "I have heard of thee... but now mine eye seeth thee" (v. 5). The goal of every trial is a deeper, more personal revelation of God.
2. Intercession for Enemies: Job’s restoration began when he prayed for the friends who had hurt him (v. 10). Forgiveness is often the key that unlocks God’s blessing.
3. The Double Portion: God’s "latter end" for Job was better than his beginning. God is the God of restoration and new beginnings.

FORMAL PRAYER

Thank Thee, O Lord, for the "latter end." Help us to pray for those who despitefully use us and to rest in the knowledge that Thou canst do everything and no thought can be withholden from Thee. Amen.
