Chapter Study & Analysis

Job 18 is Bildad’s second speech. He is offended by Job’s words and delivers a terrifying description of the "terrors" that await the wicked, including the "king of terrors" (death).

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The King of Terrors: Bildad calls death the "king of terrors" (v. 14). For those without God, death is the ultimate fear; for the believer, that sting has been removed by Christ.
2. The Snare of the Wicked: He describes sin as a trap that catches the sinner by the heel (v. 8-10). Sin has a mechanical consequence; it always leads to a loss of freedom.
3. A Legacy of Darkness: Bildad claims the wicked will have no name or remnant (v. 17-19). We should live for an eternal legacy that cannot be erased by time.

FORMAL PRAYER

Deliver us, O Lord, from the snares of the wicked. We thank Thee that through Christ, we no longer fear the "king of terrors," for He has conquered death and given us the victory. Amen.
