Chapter Study & Analysis

Job 30 contrasts his past glory with his present misery. He is mocked by those he once helped, his health is gone, and he feels that God has become "cruel" to him.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Fickleness of Human Honor: Those who once respected Job now "abhor" him (v. 1-10). We must base our identity on God’s approval, not on the shifting praise of men.
2. The Physical Toll of Suffering: Job describes his "bones are pierced" and his "skin is black" (v. 17, 30). God understands the physical and emotional exhaustion that comes with long-term trials.
3. Feeling Forgotten by God: Job cried out, but felt God did not hear (v. 20). It is common in deep trials to feel that God has changed toward us, but we must trust His unchanging Word over our changing feelings.

FORMAL PRAYER

In our days of affliction, O Lord, sustain us. When the world mocks and our bodies fail, be Thou our refuge and the strength of our hearts forever. Amen.
