Chapter Study & Analysis

Acts 4 details the first persecution of the Church, as Peter and John are arrested. Despite threats, they testify boldly before the Sanhedrin. The chapter concludes with the believers praying for even more boldness and sharing their possessions in radical generosity.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Exclusive Savior: There is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved (v. 12). In a pluralistic age, we must stand firm on the uniqueness of Christ for salvation.
2. Unstoppable Testimony: The rulers marveled at the boldness of "unlearned and ignorant men" because they had "been with Jesus" (v. 13). Intimacy with Christ is the source of true spiritual authority.
3. Sovereign Prayer: Instead of praying for the removal of persecution, the Church prayed for boldness to speak the Word (v. 29). We should focus our prayers on fulfilling our mission regardless of the circumstances.

FORMAL PRAYER

Almighty God, before whom the nations rage in vain: grant unto Thy servants boldness to speak Thy Word. Let the world take knowledge that we have been with Jesus, and unite our hearts in such love that we may share all things for the sake of Thy Kingdom. Amen.
