Acts 1 Study & Commentary
Acts 1 bridges the gap between the earthly ministry of Jesus and the mission of the Church. It records the Great Commission, the Ascension of Christ, and the selection of Matthias to replace Judas, emphasizing the period of waiting for the promised Holy Spirit.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. The Power for Mission: Jesus promises power after the Holy Spirit comes (v. 8). We should not attempt to do God’s work in our own strength but rely on the divine empowerment that comes through prayer and surrender.2. The Reality of the Return: The angels affirm that Jesus will return in the same way He ascended (v. 11). This historical certainty should motivate our current evangelistic efforts.
3. Unity in Prayer: Before the mission began, the disciples continued with one accord in prayer (v. 14). Spiritual breakthroughs are often preceded by periods of persistent, corporate intercession.
