Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Acts 14 follows Paul and Barnabas to Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe. They face both idol worship and intense persecution. The chapter emphasizes the necessity of "much tribulation" to enter the Kingdom and the establishment of elders in new churches.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Refusing Human Glory: When the crowds tried to worship them as gods, Paul and Barnabas immediately redirected the glory to the living God (v. 14-15). We must never allow ourselves to be the center of attention in God’s work.
2. The Reality of Tribulation: Paul warned that we must through "much tribulation" enter the kingdom (v. 22). Christian life is not an escape from trouble but a journey of endurance through it.
3. Strengthening the Church: Returning to the cities where they were persecuted shows the apostles’ commitment to the disciples’ growth (v. 21). True ministry involves follow-up and the building of stable leadership.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O Living God, who didst give us the rain from heaven and fruitful seasons: keep us humble in Thy service. Grant us the endurance to face every tribulation with joy, knowing that Thou art the one who confirms and strengthens the souls of Thy disciples. Amen.
