Chapter Study & Analysis

Acts 22 contains Paul’s defense before the Jewish crowd, where he shares his conversion story and his specific call to the Gentiles. The speech ends in renewed violence, leading the Roman commander to discover that Paul is a Roman citizen.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Power of Personal Testimony: Paul uses his own life story to bridge the gap with his audience (v. 1-21). Sharing what Christ has done for us remains one of the most effective tools for reaching others.
2. Recognizing the Divine "Go": Paul recounts how the Lord told him to depart for the Gentiles (v. 21). We must be sensitive to God’s directions, even when they lead us away from our own people or comfort zones.
3. Using Lawful Standing: Paul invoked his Roman citizenship to avoid an illegal scourging (v. 25). It is appropriate for believers to use their legal rights and status to facilitate the work of the Gospel.

FORMAL PRAYER

Almighty God, who didst reveal Thy Son to Paul on the way to Damascus: help us to be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh us a reason of the hope that is in us. Grant us wisdom to use every means at our disposal for the defense of the Truth. Amen.
