Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Acts 10 is a pivotal chapter describing the conversion of Cornelius, a Roman Centurion. Through visions to both Peter and Cornelius, God breaks down the wall between Jews and Gentiles, confirming that salvation is available to all people.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. God is No Respecter of Persons: Peter realizes that God does not show favoritism (v. 34). We must examine our own hearts for any prejudice or bias that hinders us from sharing the Gospel with everyone.
2. The Importance of Prayer and Alms: Cornelius’ prayers and acts of charity came up as a memorial before God (v. 4). Even those seeking God are noticed by Him; we should be encouraged that our sincere seeking is never in vain.
3. The Confirmation of the Spirit: The falling of the Holy Spirit on the Gentiles (v. 44) was the final proof of their inclusion. We must align our theology with what God is clearly doing through His Spirit.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O Father of all, who hast made of one blood all nations of men: deliver us from all prejudice and pride. Open our hearts to reach those outside our own circles, and let Thy Holy Spirit fall upon all who hear Thy Word, that we may be one in Christ. Amen.
