Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Acts 24 describes Paul’s trial before Governor Felix. Though the Jewish leaders bring professional accusations, Paul defends his faith in the resurrection. Felix keeps Paul in prison for two years, hoping for a bribe and frequently trembling at Paul’s preaching.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Hope in the Resurrection: Paul anchors his faith in the resurrection of the dead (v. 15). This hope is the cornerstone of our endurance; because Christ rose, our labor and suffering are not in vain.
2. The Danger of Procrastination: Felix trembled but said, "Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee" (v. 25). There is no "convenient" time to obey God; today is the day of salvation.
3. Integrity Under Pressure: Paul refused to seek his freedom through bribery (v. 26). We must maintain our ethical standards even when a compromise seems to offer a quick solution to our problems.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O God of Truth, who hast promised a resurrection of the just and the unjust: help us to exercise ourselves to have always a conscience void of offense. Deliver us from the spirit of delay and grant us the integrity to wait upon Thy timing for our deliverance. Amen.
