Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Acts 26 contains Paul’s masterful defense before King Agrippa. He recounts his life as a Pharisee, his conversion, and his commission to open the eyes of the Gentiles. Agrippa is almost persuaded, but Paul remains a prisoner bound for Rome.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. The Purpose of the Gospel: Christ sent Paul to turn people "from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God" (v. 18). This remains the core mission of every believer and every local church.
2. Not Disobedient to the Vision: Paul was faithful to the "heavenly vision" (v. 19). Success in the Christian life is defined by our obedience to the light and the calling we have received from God.
3. The Persuasive Power of Truth: Paul’s goal was not just to defend himself, but to see his hearers saved (v. 29). Our defense of the faith should always be motivated by a desire to win the souls of our listeners.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
O Lord Jesus, who hast called us out of darkness into Thy marvelous light: keep us faithful to the vision Thou hast given us. Grant us such boldness and love that we may persuade others to seek the inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith in Thee. Amen.
