Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 1 records Solomon’s beginning as king. He goes to Gibeon to sacrifice and asks God for wisdom and knowledge to lead the people. God grants him wisdom, along with riches and honor beyond any king before him.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Admitting Our Inadequacy: Solomon acknowledged he was "but a little child" in leadership (v. 8-10). Real strength starts with admitting we need God’s help.
2. The Right Request: Solomon didn't ask for the life of his enemies or long life, but for the ability to serve others. God blesses those whose motives are focused on the welfare of His people.
3. God’s Overflow: When we seek the Kingdom first, God often adds the "riches and honor" as a byproduct of His grace.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, give us wisdom and knowledge that we may go out and come in before Thy people. Grant us an understanding heart to discern between good and evil as we serve in the roles Thou hast given us. Amen.
