Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 10 details the rebellion of the ten tribes against Rehoboam. By following the harsh advice of his peers instead of the elders, Rehoboam causes the very division God had prophesied.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Cost of Pride: Rehoboam thought authority was for personal power rather than service (v. 14). Leadership that lacks empathy eventually loses its influence.
2. Seeking Mature Counsel: Dismissing the experience of the elders led to disaster. We must value the wisdom of those who have walked the path before us.
3. God’s Overarching Plan: Even in human error, God was fulfilling His word (v. 15). God can use even our mistakes to move history toward His sovereign ends.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, grant us a heart of service and the wisdom to listen to godly counsel. Keep us from the pride that causes division and help us to lead with grace in the areas Thou hast entrusted to us. Amen.
