Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 14 describes the early reign of Asa. He removes idols and trusts God, leading to a massive victory over a million-man Ethiopian army after crying out to God in prayer.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Removing the Hindrances: Asa’s victory was preceded by his removal of foreign altars (v. 3). We cannot expect God’s power in our battles if we are harboring idols in our hearts.
2. The Prayer of Helplessness: "Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power" (v. 11). Great faith often begins with an honest admission of our own weakness.
3. Peace through Obedience: The land had rest because they sought the Lord. Seeking God is the only true foundation for lasting peace.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord our God, help us; for we rest on Thee, and in Thy name we go against this multitude. Let not man prevail against Thee, for our trust is in Thy sovereign power. Amen.
