Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 20 recounts the miraculous victory over the Moabites and Ammonites. Faced with an overwhelming army, Jehoshaphat leads the nation in fasting and prayer. God commands them to stand still, and as they praise, the enemies are defeated.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Battle is Not Yours: "The battle is not yours, but God’s" (v. 15). When we are overwhelmed, our primary job is to position ourselves in faith and let God act.
2. Admitting Limitation: "We have no might... neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee" (v. 12). This is the pinnacle of spiritual maturity: looking to God when we have no answers.
3. Praise as a Weapon: The ambush happened only when they began to sing and praise (v. 22). Worship is not just a response to victory; it is often the means of obtaining it.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord, our eyes are upon Thee. We thank Thee that the battle belongs to Thee. Teach us to praise Thee even in the face of the enemy, trusting that Thy mercy endureth for ever. Amen.
