Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 33 covers the reign of Manasseh, who was exceptionally wicked but later repented in Babylonian captivity, and his son Amon, who continued in sin but did not humble himself.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Depth of Mercy: Manasseh is the ultimate example that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace if they truly humble themselves (v. 12-13).
2. The Scars of Sin: Though Manasseh was forgiven, the idols he planted and the blood he shed left a lasting impact on Judah. Forgiveness removes the guilt, but not always the earthly consequences.
3. Failure to Humble Oneself: Unlike his father, Amon "trespassed more and more" (v. 23). Hardening one's heart in the face of judgment is a fatal mistake.

FORMAL PRAYER

We thank Thee, O Lord, that Thy mercy is greater than our greatest sin. Grant us a heart that is quick to humble itself and slow to wander from Thy presence. Amen.
