Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
2 Chronicles 28 records the disastrous reign of Ahaz. He was one of Judah’s worst kings, practicing child sacrifice and closing the doors of the Temple. God delivered him into the hands of Syria and Israel as a judgment.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. The Downward Spiral of Sin: Ahaz "trespassed yet more against the Lord" in his distress (v. 22). When trials come, we must turn *to* God, not *away* from Him.
2. Seeking Help from Idols: Ahaz sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, thinking they helped his enemies (v. 23). It is a folly to seek help from the very things that cause our ruin.
3. The Mercy in the Midst of Wrath: Even when Judah was defeated, God used the prophet Oded to ensure that the captives were treated with mercy and returned home (v. 9-15).
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Deliver us, O Lord, from the hardness of heart that refuses to repent in times of trouble. Grant us the wisdom to seek Thy face alone and to trust in Thy mercy even when we face Thy discipline. Amen.
