Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 24 follows the reign of Joash. He repairs the Temple using a chest for collections. However, after the death of Jehoiada, Joash falls into idolatry and even kills Jehoiada’s son, Zechariah.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Need for Personal Conviction: Joash did right only as long as his mentor lived (v. 2). We must ensure our faith is rooted in God, not just in the influence of others.
2. Stewardship with Integrity: The "chest" system ensured that money given for the Temple was used for the Temple (v. 8-11). Transparency and honesty are essential in the handling of sacred resources.
3. The Danger of Ingratitude: Joash forgot the kindness of his mentor and killed his son. Ingratitude is a root of many spiritual falls.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, help us to develop a deep and personal faith that endures beyond the influence of our teachers. Keep us grateful for those who have poured into our lives and faithful to Thee until the end. Amen.
