Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 34 follows the reign of Josiah. At age sixteen he begins to seek God, and at twenty he purges the land of idols. During Temple repairs, the Book of the Law is found, sparking a national repentance.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Seeking God Early: Josiah sought the Lord while he was "yet young" (v. 3). No one is too young to make a radical commitment to God’s truth.
2. The Impact of the Lost Word: The kingdom was transformed when they found the Bible. We often take our access to the Word for granted; its discovery should always lead to action.
3. Tenderheartedness: God spared Josiah from seeing the judgment because his heart was "tender" (v. 27). A sensitive conscience is a great protection against divine wrath.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, give us a tender heart toward Thy Word. May we seek Thee in our youth and in our old age, allowing Thy Truth to purge every idol from our lives. Amen.
