Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 23 describes the revolt led by Jehoiada the priest to overthrow the usurper Athaliah. He crowns the young Joash, executes Athaliah, and leads the people in a covenant to be the Lord’s people.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Courage in Crisis: Jehoiada waited for the right time and acted decisively (v. 1). Spiritual leadership requires both patience and the courage to challenge evil.
2. The Restoration of Order: The first act of the new kingdom was to destroy the house of Baal (v. 17). True restoration begins with removing what offends God.
3. Covenant Commitment: The people made a covenant between the king and the Lord. Success is found when our social and personal lives are aligned with God’s standards.

FORMAL PRAYER

Grant us, O Lord, the courage of Jehoiada to stand for truth. May we be a people committed to Thy covenant, seeking to restore righteousness in our land and in our hearts. Amen.
