Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 6 contains Solomon’s prayer of dedication. He acknowledges that no building can contain God but asks that God would hear the prayers directed toward this house, especially in times of sin and exile.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. God’s Transcendent Nature: "Will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth?" (v. 18). We must never domesticate God; He is infinitely greater than our concepts or buildings.
2. A House of Restoration: Solomon prayed for a way back for those who repent (v. 37-39). God’s house—and His heart—is always open to the one who truly turns back to Him.
3. Fulfilling the Promise: Solomon reminded God of His promise to David. We can boldly approach God based on the covenants He has made in His Word.

FORMAL PRAYER

Arise, O Lord God, into Thy resting place. Let Thy priests be clothed with salvation, and let Thy saints rejoice in goodness. Hear Thou from heaven and forgive Thy people when they cry unto Thee. Amen.
