Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Chronicles 32 details the invasion of Sennacherib and Hezekiah’s trust in God. After the miraculous deliverance from Assyria, Hezekiah’s pride is tested by Babylonian ambassadors, but he humbles himself before God.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. More with Us than with Him: "With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God" (v. 8). Our confidence in crisis should be based on God’s presence, not human resources.
2. The Danger of After-Victory Pride: Even after a miracle, Hezekiah’s heart was "lifted up" (v. 25). We are often most vulnerable to sin right after a great spiritual success.
3. Speaking Comfort: Hezekiah "spake comfortably" to the people. A leader’s role in crisis is to strengthen the faith of others through encouraged words.

FORMAL PRAYER

Be our strength, O Lord, against every "arm of flesh" that rises against us. Keep us humble in the hour of victory and help us to be a source of encouragement to others. Amen.
