And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;

Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honor in abundance.

Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.

And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem.

2 Chronicles 17 Study & Commentary
2 Chronicles 17 follows Jehoshaphat’s rise. He strengthens Judah not only through military means but by sending Levites and priests throughout the land to teach the Book of the Law to the people.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Strength through Scripture: Jehoshaphat knew that a nation is only as strong as its knowledge of God’s Word (v. 9). Biblical literacy is the greatest defense against spiritual and social decay.2. Godly Leadership: He walked in the "first ways of his father David." We should strive to return to the foundational principles of faith that God has already blessed.
3. Divine Favor: The fear of the Lord fell on the surrounding kingdoms because of Judah’s devotion. When we honor God, He handles our reputation and our enemies.
