Chapter Study & Analysis

Matthew 8 records a series of miracles—the healing of a leper, the centurion’s servant, and Peter’s mother-in-law—as well as the calming of the storm. These acts demonstrate Christ’s absolute authority over disease, nature, and demons.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Power of Faith: The Centurion’s faith (v. 10) recognized that Christ’s word alone was sufficient. We must trust the authority of His Word even when we cannot see the outcome.
2. The Cost of Following: Jesus warns that He has "nowhere to lay his head" (v. 20). Discipleship may involve physical or social discomfort, but He is worth the sacrifice.
3. Lord of the Storm: Even when the "waves" of life seem overwhelming, Jesus is in the boat (v. 26). His peace is greater than any external chaos.

FORMAL PRAYER

Almighty Lord, who by Thy word didst heal the sick and still the raging sea: speak peace to our troubled hearts. Increase our faith to trust Thy power in every circumstance, and give us grace to follow Thee wherever Thou goest. Amen.
