Chapter Study & Analysis

Matthew 20 contains the Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard and the healing of two blind men near Jericho. It also features Jesus’ third passion prediction and His teaching on servant-leadership.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Sovereignty of Grace: The laborers all received the same wage regardless of hours worked (v. 12-15). God’s grace is His to give; we should rejoice in His goodness to others rather than compare our "wages."
2. The Path of Greatness: In the Kingdom, to be chief is to be a servant (v. 27). Leadership is not about exercising authority over others, but about giving one’s life in service.
3. The Persistent Cry: The blind men would not be silenced by the crowd (v. 31). When we recognize our need for Christ, we must cry out until we receive His touch.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord of the Vineyard, whose grace is sufficient for all: deliver us from the spirit of envy. Teach us to serve even as Thou didst come not to be ministered unto, but to minister. Open our eyes, O Son of David, that we may see Thy way and walk in it. Amen.
