Chapter Study & Analysis

Matthew 10 contains the commissioning of the twelve Apostles. Jesus gives them authority over spirits and diseases, instructs them on how to conduct their mission, and warns them of the inevitable persecution that follows the Gospel.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Ambassadors of the King: The disciples were sent with power to represent Christ (v. 1). Every believer carries the responsibility of representing the Kingdom in their sphere of influence.
2. Wisdom and Innocence: We are to be "wise as serpents, and harmless as doves" (v. 16). Effective ministry requires a combination of strategic intelligence and moral purity.
3. Fear Not: Jesus emphasizes that God cares for the sparrows and counts the hairs of our heads (v. 30). We should fear God alone, knowing our lives are secure in His sovereign hand.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord of the Apostles, who didst send Thy servants as sheep in the midst of wolves: grant us Thy wisdom and Thy peace. Deliver us from the fear of man and empower us to confess Thy name before the world, trusting in Thy fatherly care. Amen.
