Chapter Study & Analysis

Matthew 7 concludes the Sermon on the Mount with warnings about judgment, the narrow gate, and false prophets. Jesus emphasizes that true discipleship is proven by fruit and by building one’s life on the rock of His teachings.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Spec and the Beam: We must practice self-examination before correcting others (v. 3). Critical spirits are often blind to their own greater failures.
2. The Golden Rule: Treat others as you wish to be treated (v. 12). This is the summary of the Law and the Prophets in relational form.
3. Building on the Rock: Hearing Christ’s words is not enough; we must *do* them (v. 24). Only the life built on active obedience can withstand the storms of judgment and trial.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Wise Builder, who hast given us the words of eternal life: grant us the strength to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. Guide us through the narrow gate and keep our feet firm upon the Rock of Thy Truth. Amen.
