Chapter Study & Analysis

Ezekiel 37 - The Valley of Dry Bones: Ezekiel is carried to a valley full of very dry bones. He prophesies to the bones and then to the wind (Spirit), and they come to life as a "mighty army." This is followed by the sign of the two sticks becoming one.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Hope of Israel: The bones represent the exiles saying "our hope is lost." God proves His power over "incurable" death.
2. The Power of the Word and Spirit: Restoration requires both the "prophesying" of the Word and the "breath" of the Ruach (Spirit).
3. National Unity: The two sticks (Judah and Ephraim) becoming one symbolizes the end of the schism and the restoration of one kingdom under one King.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. God of the Impossible: No situation is too "dry" or "dead" for the resurrecting power of God.
2. Unity under Christ: True unity among God’s people is a work of God and is centered on the Messianic King.
