Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Ezekiel 10 - The Glory Departs: The vision of the Cherubim returns. Coals of fire are scattered over the city, and the Glory of the Lord moves from the threshold of the Temple to the East Gate, preparing to leave entirely.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. The Abandoned House: This is the tragic climax of the first section. Because of the abominations in chapter 8, the presence of God leaves His dwelling.
2. Cherubim and Wheels: Reaffirming that the same Glory Ezekiel saw in Babylon (Ch. 1) is the one leaving Jerusalem.
3. Judgment by Fire: The man in linen takes coals from between the wheels to scatter over the city, signifying its destruction by burning.
Practical Lessons
PRACTICAL LESSONS
1. The Presence is more important than the Building: A church or temple is just a shell if the Glory of God has departed.
2. God’s Reluctant Departure: The Glory moves in stages (threshold to gate), showing God's "lingering" mercy before final abandonment.
