Chapter Study & Analysis

Ezekiel 34 - The Shepherds and the True Shepherd: A scathing rebuke of the "shepherds of Israel" (leaders) who fed themselves but neglected the sheep. God promises to personally search for His sheep and set over them "one shepherd, even my servant David."

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. Pastoral Failure: The leaders exploited the flock (eating the fat, clothing with wool) instead of healing the sick.
2. Jehovah as the Seeker: "I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out" (v. 11).
3. The Messianic Prince: The promise of a future "David" (Christ) who will bring a "covenant of peace" and "showers of blessing."

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. The Heart of Leadership: Leaders are called to "feed the flock," not themselves.
2. God’s Care for the Vulnerable: When human leaders fail, God Himself intervenes to protect and restore His people.
