Chapter Study & Analysis

Ezekiel 14 - Idols in the Heart: Elders come to Ezekiel for a word, but God reveals they have "set up their idols in their heart." He declares that even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were present, they could only save themselves.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. Internal Idolatry (v. 3): God refuses to be "enquired of" by those who harbor secret loyalty to idols in their minds.
2. Individual Deliverance: Mentioning Noah, Daniel, and Job proves that righteousness is not "transferable" for national salvation.
3. The Purpose of Judgment: To cut off the stumbling block of iniquity and bring the people back to the Covenant.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Sincerity in Prayer: We cannot expect answers from God while knowingly clutching "heart idols."
2. Personal Piety: No one is saved by the faith of their parents or leaders; each must "deliver his own soul."
