Chapter Study & Analysis

Ezekiel 3 - The Watchman’s Responsibility: Ezekiel eats the scroll and finds it "sweet as honey." God appoints him as a watchman for the house of Israel, making him accountable for warning the wicked and the righteous.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Sweetness of the Word: Even a message of judgment is "sweet" because it comes from God and is the truth.
2. The Watchman (v. 17-21): A crucial concept of ministerial accountability. If the watchman doesn't warn, the blood is on his hands; if he warns and they don't listen, he is delivered.
3. Divine Restraint: God causes Ezekiel's tongue to cleave to the roof of his mouth, making him "dumb" except when God gives him a specific word.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. The Burden of Warning: Understanding our responsibility to speak the truth to those in danger of judgment.
2. Total Dependence on God's Timing: Learning to be silent until God "opens the mouth."
