Leviticus 12 Study & Commentary

This chapter outlines the purification rites for a woman after childbirth. It includes a period of uncleanness followed by a burnt offering and a sin offering to make an atonement for her.
1. The Cost of the Fall: The pain and ritual uncleanness associated with birth point back to the consequences of the fall in Eden.
2. Life is Sacred: Even in the natural process of birth, God provides a way for the mother to be restored to sanctuary fellowship.
3. Provision for All: Like Mary (the mother of Jesus), the poor could offer pigeons or turtledoves, showing that God’s grace is accessible to every economic class.
