Chapter Study & Analysis

Nadab and Abihu, sons of Aaron, offer "strange fire" before the LORD, which He commanded them not. Fire from the LORD devours them, and they die. Moses explains that God will be sanctified in them that come nigh Him. Aaron and his surviving sons are forbidden from mourning in a way that disrupts their service.
1. The Fear of the Lord: God is not a "buddy" to be trifled with; He is a consuming fire who must be approached with exact obedience.
2. Strange Fire: Offering worship that God has not commanded is an abomination. We must worship God in Spirit and in Truth, not according to our own inventions.
3. Leadership and Grief: Those in ministry must sometimes put their duty to God above their own personal grief, showing the gravity of the holy office.
