Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Jeremiah 6 - The Old Paths: As the siege of Jerusalem begins, God urges the people to look for the "old paths" and warns that their religious rituals are rejected because they lack obedience.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. The Old Paths (v. 16): Peace for the soul is found in returning to the established, ancient truths of God's covenant.
2. Reprobate Silver (v. 30): The people are compared to silver that cannot be refined because the dross is too integrated into the metal.
3. The Rejection of Incense: God detests worship ("incense from Sheba") when it is used to mask a lifestyle of rebellion.
