Overview
Jeremiah 29 - The Letter to the Exiles: Jeremiah sends a letter to those in Babylon, telling them to build houses, plant gardens, and seek the peace of the city, for the exile will last seventy years.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. The Shalom of the City: "Seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away" (v. 7). A foundational text for public theology.
2. The Promise of a Future (v. 11): "I know the thoughts that I think toward you... thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."
3. Wholehearted Seeking: "Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart" (v. 13).
