Chapter Study & Analysis

Jeremiah 46 - Judgment on Egypt: Oracles against Pharaoh-necho and the Egyptian army at Carchemish. God describes their defeat and the eventual "visitation" of Egypt, while promising to "not make a full end" of Israel.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Day of the Lord God of Hosts (v. 10): A day of sacrifice and vengeance against the enemies of God’s people.
2. The Balm of Gilead: Mocking Egypt, saying that even with many medicines, they cannot be healed (v. 11).
3. Messianic Assurance: Amidst the judgment of nations, God promises to "correct" Israel in measure, but not utterly destroy them.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Trusting in Might: Egypt's "mighty men" stumble and fall, showing that military power is no match for divine decree.
2. Measured Discipline: God’s goal for His people is correction, not annihilation.
