Chapter Study & Analysis

Jeremiah 30 - The Restoration of Israel: The beginning of the "Book of Consolation." God promises to break the yoke of the "stranger" and restore Israel and Judah, changing their mourning into joy and giving them a King from among themselves.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. Jacob's Trouble: "It is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it" (v. 7). A reference to a period of intense suffering preceding final restoration.
2. The Governor from the Midst: A Messianic promise that their leader shall proceed from among them, and God will cause Him to "draw near" (v. 21).
3. The Reciprocal Covenant: "Ye shall be my people, and I will be your God" (v. 22).

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Hope in Despair: God is the specialist in healing "incurable" bruises (v. 12, 17).
2. Divine Vindication: Those who "devour" God's people will themselves be devoured in the end.
