Chapter Study & Analysis

Jeremiah 43 - The Flight to Egypt: The leaders accuse Jeremiah of lying and force the remnant, including Jeremiah and Baruch, to go to Egypt. At Tahpanhes, Jeremiah prophesies that Nebuchadnezzar will set his throne in the very place they sought refuge.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Rejection of Prophetic Authority: The leaders call Jeremiah a "liar," showing that their earlier oath of obedience was a sham.
2. Inescapable Judgment: Entering Egypt did not provide safety; God reveals that the "sword" they feared in Judah would follow them there.
3. Nebuchadnezzar as God’s Agent: God calls him "my servant" again, even when he invades Egypt (v. 10).

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. You Cannot Run from God: Geographic relocation cannot solve a spiritual problem.
2. Influence of Bad Counsel: Beware of leaders (like Johanan) who lead others into direct disobedience under the guise of "safety."
