These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

Deuteronomy 5 Study & Commentary

Moses repeats the Ten Commandments to the new generation. He emphasizes that the covenant was made with them personally. He recalls how the people feared the glory of God at the mountain and asked Moses to be their mediator.
1. A Personal Covenant: God’s Word is not just for our ancestors; it is a living contract with us today.
2. The Heart of Obedience: God desires a heart that fears Him and keeps His commandments always, for our own good.
3. The Need for a Mediator: The people’s fear shows why we need Jesus Christ as our ultimate Mediator to stand between us and the holy fire of God.
