Deuteronomy 14 Study & Commentary

Israel is forbidden from pagan mourning customs and instructed on dietary laws (clean vs. unclean). Moses also outlines the law of the tithe, including the "third-year tithe" for the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow.
1. Holiness in Every Detail: Even what we eat reflects our status as a people set apart for God.
2. The Purpose of Tithing: Giving a portion of our income teaches us to "fear the Lord our God always" and acknowledge Him as the Source.
3. Compassion for the Vulnerable: God measures the health of a society by how it treats those who cannot provide for themselves.
