Chapter Study & Analysis

Deuteronomy 33 presents the final blessings of Moses upon the tribes of Israel before his death. He highlights the unique role of each tribe and concludes with a magnificent praise of God’s majesty and the security of His people.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Eternal Arms: "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms" (v. 27). This is one of the greatest promises of comfort: God’s strength is always beneath us, supporting us in our weakest moments.
2. A People Saved by the Lord: "Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord" (v. 29). Our true happiness and identity are found solely in our status as a people redeemed by God.
3. Distinct Blessings: Each tribe received a blessing tailored to its calling (v. 6-25). God deals with us both as a body and as individuals, providing the specific grace needed for our unique roles.

FORMAL PRAYER

Eternal God, who art our refuge and whose everlasting arms are underneath us: we thank Thee for Thy peculiar blessings. Grant that we may dwell in safety by Thee and be satisfied with Thy favor. Amen.
