Chapter Study & Analysis

Deuteronomy 32 contains the "Song of Moses," a poetic witness against Israel. It celebrates God as "The Rock," recounts His mercies, rebukes the peoples idolatry, and foretells both judgment and God’s final vindication of His servants.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Perfection of the Rock: "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment" (v. 4). In a shifting world, God is our stable, perfect, and just Foundation.
2. The Danger of Prosperity: "Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked" (v. 15). Often, in times of abundance, we are tempted to forget God. We must guard against the spiritual lethargy that comes with material comfort.
3. The Power of Life and Death: "I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal" (v. 39). All existence is in God’s hand. Recognizing His absolute sovereignty brings both holy fear and deep security.

FORMAL PRAYER

O God, our Rock, whose ways are perfect and just: grant that we may never forget Thy mercies in our times of prosperity. Give us hearts that tremble at Thy Word and rest in Thy sovereign care. Amen.
