Chapter Study & Analysis

Deuteronomy 31 records Moses reaching the age of 120 and preparing the transition of leadership to Joshua. He encourages the people to be "strong and of a good courage," delivers the written Law to the priests, and warns of the nations future apostasy.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. God Goes Before Us: "The Lord thy God, he will go over before thee" (v. 3). Success in our missions is not based on our leader’s presence, but on God’s unchanging guidance.
2. Fearlessness: "Be strong and of a good courage, fear not" (v. 6). This command, repeated to Joshua, reminds us that courage is a choice rooted in the promise: "He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."
3. Public Reading of the Word: The Law was to be read every seven years (v. 10-13). Constant re-exposure to the Scriptures is the only safeguard against a generation losing its spiritual identity.

FORMAL PRAYER

Almighty God, grant us to be strong and of a good courage in the face of our enemies. We thank Thee for the promise that Thou wilt never leave us nor forsake us; help us to keep Thy Word ever before our eyes. Amen.
