Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Kings 9 follows the anointing of Jehu as king of Israel. Jehu acts swiftly to execute God’s judgment, killing King Joram of Israel, King Ahaziah of Judah, and finally Jezebel, fulfilling Elijah’s prophecy to the letter.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Zeal for God’s Justice: Jehu was a man of action who did not hesitate to carry out God’s command (v. 20). There are seasons when spiritual passivity must be replaced by decisive obedience.
2. The Certainty of Judgment: Jezebel’s pride and cruelty ended exactly as God said it would (v. 36-37). No one is too powerful to escape the consequences of their rebellion against God.
3. The Ripple Effect of Sin: Ahab’s sin brought destruction upon his entire lineage. Our choices impact our children and our future legacy.

FORMAL PRAYER

Almighty Judge, help us to walk in the fear of Thy Name. Grant us the courage to be decisive in our obedience and keep us from the pride that leads to destruction. Amen.
