Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Kings 15 provides a rapid overview of several kings in both Judah (Azariah/Uzziah and Jotham) and Israel (Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem, Pekahiah, and Pekah). Israel descends into political chaos and frequent assassinations.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Danger of Presumption: Uzziah (Azariah) was struck with leprosy for intruding into the priest’s office (v. 5). We must respect the boundaries God has set for our roles and gifts.
2. The Instability of Iniquity: Israel’s rapid change of kings shows that a house built on sin cannot stand. Spiritual instability always leads to social and political chaos.
3. Walking in the Father’s Steps: Jotham followed the good examples of his father (v. 34). We have a responsibility to pass on a pattern of faithfulness to those who follow us.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, help us to walk within the boundaries Thou hast set for us. Grant us stability through obedience and help us to be a consistent example of righteousness to the next generation. Amen.
