And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

2 Kings 2 describes Elijah being taken to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha refuses to leave his side and receives a double portion of his spirit. Elisha then performs his first miracles: parting the Jordan and healing the waters of Jericho.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Persistence in Discipleship: Elisha would not be separated from his mentor (v. 2, 4, 6). Spiritual maturity requires a persistent commitment to the process of growth and mentorship.2. Seeking Greater Grace: Asking for a "double portion" (v. 9) wasn't greed; it was a realization of the great task ahead. We should desire the fullness of the Spirit for the work God has given us.
3. The Power of the Manto: When Elisha struck the water, it was God who answered (v. 14). God’s power remains consistent even when His human instruments change.
