Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Kings 24 records the beginning of the end. Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon invades, carrying away King Jehoiachin, the treasures of the Temple, and the elite of the land (including Ezekiel). Zedekiah is placed on the throne as a puppet king.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Sovereignty of God in Judgment: It was "at the commandment of the Lord" that this destruction came (v. 3). God is in control of history, using even pagan nations to accomplish His holy purposes.
2. The Loss of Glory: Seeing the treasures of the Temple carried to Babylon is a tragic reminder of what happens when we value the gifts more than the Giver.
3. The Stubbornness of the Human Will: Zedekiah continued to do evil despite the clear judgment falling around him (v. 19). We must learn from the mistakes of others rather than repeating them.

FORMAL PRAYER

O God, keep us from the stubbornness of heart that refuses to see Thy hand in our circumstances. Help us to value Thy presence above any earthly treasure or status. Amen.
