Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Kings 18 introduces Hezekiah, one of Judah’s greatest kings, who removed the high places and trusted God. When Sennacherib of Assyria invades and mocks the Lord through Rabshakeh, Hezekiah remains steadfast in faith.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Removing the "Nehushtan": Hezekiah destroyed the bronze serpent because people began to worship it (v. 4). We must be careful that good things from our past do not become idols that replace God.
2. Faith Under Fire: Rabshakeh used psychological warfare to discourage the people (v. 19-35). When the enemy mocks our faith, our best response is often silence and trust in God.
3. Radical Reform: Hezekiah didn’t just clean the Temple; he removed the high places. True reform requires dealing with the root causes of our spiritual drift.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, give us the courage of Hezekiah to remove every idol from our lives. When the enemy mocks our trust in Thee, grant us a quiet confidence in Thy power to deliver us. Amen.
