Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
2 Kings 10 details Jehu’s total destruction of Ahab’s seventy sons and the slaughter of the priests of Baal. While Jehu was zealous in destroying idolatry, he failed to depart from the golden calves of Jeroboam.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Partial Obedience is Disobedience: Jehu destroyed Baal but kept the golden calves (v. 29). We must be careful not to remove "obvious" sins while holding onto "convenient" ones.
2. The Motive of the Heart: It is possible to do God’s work with a selfish heart. External zeal is no substitute for internal devotion and love for God’s law.
3. God Honors What is Right: Despite his flaws, God rewarded Jehu’s obedience against Ahab (v. 30). God is a just rewarder, noting every act done in accordance with His word.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Lord, grant us a heart that is wholly Thine. May our obedience be complete and our motives pure, as we seek to honor Thee in both our public actions and our private thoughts. Amen.
